Sociometry Association of St. Thomas College, Organised Community Outreach Program

Department of Sociology organised a visit to Mother Teresa Ashram as a part of Community Outreach program. The students and team members of Sociometry Association Donated ‘Walker’ to one of the inmates of Mother Teresa Ashram. Students of B.A Sociology, showcased cultural program to entertain the innates of the Ashram. The principal of the college Dr. M. G. Roymon and administrator of the college Rev. Fr. Dr. Joshi Varghese extended their moral support and congratulated the students for their sincere dedication &devotion towards the needy section of the society. The entire program was guided and supported by Ms. Deepti Santosh,Head In- Charge of Department of Sociology and Dr. Hari Prakash Sonwani, Assistant Professor Sociology Department.

75 Students of St. Thomas College Excel in University Merit list

Sc Physics) , 5 from (M.A- English)2 from (M-.Com) and 6 from ( BBA VI Semester) The excellent academic ambience and the innovative teaching and learning of the college have always helped the students to excel in academics. College Chairman Bishop H.G. Alexios Mar Eusebius, Administrator, Rev. Fr. Dr. Joshi Varghese, Principal, Dr. M.G. Roymon, HOD and all faculty of the Department congratulated the merit holders.

Seminar on “Effective Communication Skills” organized

The PG. Department of Commerce under the aegis of Commzenith organised a Seminar on the Topic “Building Effective Communication Skills”, in collaboration with International School of Business & Media (ISB&M) Pune (MH) on 6/12/2022. Prof. Jerin Jacob Mathew of ISB&M Bangalore was the chief speaker on the occasion. He gave important tips to the students regarding how to face an interview and the group discussion session in future for placements. How the students can excel themselves in their performance through effective communication. Principal of the college Dr. M.G. Roymon Presided over the program and congratulated the department for conducing the seminar. Mr. Ajay Ketan Nayak Assistant Vice President International School of Business & Media Pune (MH) and Mr. Sachin Verma from ISB&M  Bhopal (MP) were also present who coordinated in making the program a success. Dr. Sapna Sharma Head PG. Department of Commerce welcomed the gathering. Dr. Neelam Gandhi Asst. Prof of commerce department conducted the program. The program was attended by Dr. Sheeja Varkey Addl. Head of department of commerce, Dr. Sunita Kshatriya and  Dr. Vishwadeep Gupta Asst. Prof of department of commerce. More than hundred students participated in the seminar and opined that the session was fruitful for them and viewed to have many more such sessions in coming times. Students had interactive session with the speaker.

Mock Drill for NAAC visit

As per the upcoming NAAC visit and inspection a Mock Drill was organized in St. Thomas College, Bhilai on 2nd December, 2022. Dr. Sushil Chandra Tiwari, Principal Govt. Girl College, Durg was the Convener of this Drill. The members of the team were Dr. Rajesh Pande, Principal Govt. College, Utai and Dr. G. A. Ghanshyam from Higher Education Department, Chhattisgarh. It is worth mentioning that this year St. Thomas College is presenting all the achievements of college in the fourth cycle of NAAC inspection. In the college educational, cultural, sports, NSS, NCC, Women Cell, Eco Club and other cells are conducting continuous activities for the welfare and development of students. At the end of this one day visit a grand cultural program was presented by students of the college.  Finally Dr. G. A. Ghanshyam presented a brief summary report of a daylong inspection and appreciated the demonstration of all the departments and cells. He wished that the college will get the excellent grade in the upcoming NAAC visit. Along with this he also provided valuable inputs for improvements in the presentation of Principal as well as NCC, NSS and Sports. Principal of college Dr. M. G. Roymon said that the college will definitely try to present its best in front of the NAAC team members. IQAC Coordinator Dr. Debjani Mukherjee proposed the vote of thanks towards the members of mock visit for their important suggestions and guidance. The program was conducted by Dr. James Mathew, Head P.G. Department of Chemistry. On this occasion heads of various departments, other faculty members, non teaching staff and students were present.

ALUMNI MEET 2022

The Alumni association of St. Thomas College, Bhilai, organized “ALUMNI MEET 2022” at college campus on 20th November 2022 at 3:00 pm. Welcome speech was delivered by Dr. Chanda Verma(Convener of alumni community), Dr. M.G.Roymon, Principal of the college gave presidential address. A heartwarming speech was delivered by Himanshu  Khandelwal, President of Alumni committee.
Melodious song  sung by Gautami andAnushka and the experiences shared by alumni made atmosphere quite nostalgic. Dr. Jyoti Bakshi, Co-convener of alumni community compared the programme very nicely. Dr. Shabnam Khan was Convener and Dr. Rinchy Abraham was co-convener of alumni meet. Vote of thanks was given by Puneeta

Tree plantation

St. Thomas college organised tree plantation programme on 22-11-22. Chief guest of this function was Shri N.K Jain DGM (I/C) horticulture department, Bhilai steel plant.

On this occasion Principal Dr. M. G Roymon welcomed the guest in his speech he emphasized on importance of green plants, and also about the caring of the plants

Workshop on “Intellectual Property Rights- Patent & Designs Process

IPR refers creation of mind such as invention literacy, artistic work, design, symbol, names and images in any subjects for limited period of time.

The main purpose behind this is to encourage the creation of wild variety of goods for consumers, to achieve this, Patent law gives business property right to information for limited period of time

Patenting is one of the stage strategies for production of one’s intellectual right. To explore this P.G. Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology of St. Thomas College, Bhilai organized a Workshop on “Intellectual Property Rights- Patent & Designs Process” The objective of this workshop was to encourage the students for filing of various types of patents.

Principal Dr. M.G. Roymon was delivered the welcome speech and congratulated all staff members and said that the St. Thomas College regularly organizes this type of programme for benefit to students.

Mr. Himanshu Chandrakar, Examiner of Patents and Design, RGNIIPM, Nagpur was the resource person for this programme. He has been working for more than 6 Years in Indian patent office, Govt. of India and is presently working as examiner of patents and design at Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Intellectual Property Management, Nagpur.

He enlightened the students with various types of patents and gave detailed information about it to them. By giving examples he explained the participants about different Intellectual property Right. He very well explained the procedure and process to file different types of patents. In his lecture he explained different opportunities of  choosing patent examiner as career. He also thanked the organizing team for arranging such scientific programme.

This event was supervised by Dr. V. Shanthi, Head, Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology. On this event total 115 participants were registered.

This Programme was conducted by Dr. Ujjwala Supe and vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Sulagna Ghosh Barman.

Workshop on Self Defense for Girls

The Committee for Prevention of Sexual Harassment (CPOSH) & IQAC, St. Thomas College, Ruabandha, Bhilai organised One-Day Workshop on Self-Defence for Girls. The trainer on this occasion were Mr. Sensei Sandeep Tamrakar, Chief Technical Director, Creative Karate Academy Bhilai, and Mrs. Sempai Anjana Rajveer Singh, Women Self Defense Expert Bhilai. The principal of the college, Dr. M.G. Roymon appreciated the effort of the committee with his esteemed presence in the workshop. The IQAC coordinator Dr. Debjani Mukherjee and various staff members were present in the workshop. The welcome address was given by Dr. Aparna Ghosh, Convenor, CPOSH where she emphasised on the utmost need and significance of Self Defence Skill sets amongst the girls to keep themselves safe and prepared to deal with the dreadful and disheartening varied occurrences like domestic violence, mental and physical harassment in the society. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Sheeja Varkey, Addl. HOD, PG Dept. of Commerce and Vote of thanks was proposed by Miss Sukanya Jeena BA Final Year Student.

Inauguration of National Library Week

The inaugural ceremony of the National Library Week celebrations was organized at St. Thomas College, Bhilai. Dr. Sapna Sharma, Head of the Department of Commerce welcomed the gathering & highlighted the importance of libraries in keeping reading habits alive so that future generations would be able to express themselves in writing. Chief Guest of the occasion Dr. M.G.Roymon, Principal, St. Thomas College, Bhilai unveiled the logo of the Central Library that depicted its commitment to motivate students towards achieving their pinnacle of success. He appreciated the initiative of the library committee & expressed his optimism about sparking a renewed interest in reading through such activities. He emphasized the valuable role played by libraries & librarians in transforming lives and strengthening communities. Various contests have been organized by the Central Library of the college throughout the week to celebrate the occasion & foster the spirit of learning among the youth. Dr. Jyoti Bakshi, Head of the Department of Botany shared the programme schedule and the rules that must be adhered to by the contestants. She also exhorted students from all disciplines to participate in large numbers in the activities. The function culminated with the vote of thanks proposed by Mrs. Ritu Biswas, Librarian of the Central Library of the institution. She acknowledged the fact that the expansion of libraries through digital resources has enabled them to serve society better than in the past. However, she asseverated that digital libraries cannot ever overshadow traditional libraries and their ambience in pursuit of knowledge.

BAJMC (Bachelor’s of Arts in Journalism And Mass Communication) Department of St. Thomas College, Ruabandha Bhilai has organized a 15 day Certificate Programme on “Mass Communication – A Tool of Various Dimensions”. Dr. Shailendra Kumar Khandelwal, Associate Professor, Department of Advertising &
Public Relation of KTUJM, Raipur was the Chief Guest for the Inaugural Session of the Programme.

Dr. M. G. Roymon, the Principal of St. Thomas College, along with the chief guest, Dr. Shailendra Khandelwal, Dr. Reema Dewangan, Head of the department of Journalism and Mass Communication and the faculty members of the department of Mass Communication inaugurated the session by a Lamp Lighting ceremony, followed by a welcome speech from the Principal of the College, where he addressed his views on the respective Programme. Dr. Reema Dewangan, Head of the Department (BAJMC) addressed all the participants and highlighted some key points about the Certificate Programme. The faculty members of the BAJMC Department, Mr. Amitabh Sharma and Ms. Chhavi Sahu were immediate during the session.

Dr. Shailendra Kumar Khandelwal disseminated about the various aspects of the field of Journalism shared his vast knowledge about the same. He also interacted with the participants where he answered their queries and also explained the significance of skill development.

A vote of appreciation and gratitude to leading person of the Guest Speaker was paid off by Mr.Amitabh Sharma, Assistant Professor of BAJMC department. At last, Participants gave their feedback about the respective session.
