St. Thomas College, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication conducted a one day workshop on ‘Photography and its technical aspect’. The workshop was interdisciplinary in nature where the students of other departments like science, commerce, management and humanities also participated.
Principal, Dr. M.G. Roymon chaired the opening ceremony and praised the initiative taken by the Department of Journalism and Mass communication. Administrator of the College Very. Rev. Gee Varghese Ramban, congratulated the department for organizing the workshop.
The invited resource persons of the programme Mr. Amit Chouhan (Professional Photographer and a State- Level Award Winner), Mr. G.N. Yogi (Cinematographer) and Mr. KushTaunk (expert in macro photographer) conducted the sessions. The highlights of the workshop were the sessions –Introduction and an overview to Photography, Photoshop and Macro Photography. The participants got first hand practical information from the experts and were given the chance to handle the professional cameras. The Convener of the workshop, Dr. Debjani Mukherjee, Head, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication appraised the participants regarding the importance of interdisciplinary aspects of the topic. Mr. Rahul Tiwari , Assistant Professor, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication welcomed the gathering. Ms. Sakshi Pillai, Assistant Professor, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication assisted in organizing the workshop. Vote of Thanks was delivered by Nikita Sharma, student, III SEM , BA-JMC. Parth Sharma, Sagarika Sagar and Parineeti Jha conducted the programme.

Civil Services Aspirant Club – Interaction with 2015 UPSE rank holder

St. Thomas College, Bhilai Civil Services Aspirant Club Conducts a Counselling Program

DATE  – 27/9/16 TIME – 11.45 am  VENUE – Conference Hall

The Civil Services Aspirant Club (CSAC), St. Thomas College, Bhilai, conducted a counseling programme for its members. Mr Sheikh S. Rehman UPSC  2015 qualifier was the resource person. He will be joining Indian Railway Traffic Services in December. Principal Dr. M.G Roymon chaired the session and spoke of the vision of the club and praised the students for joining it.  Administrator Father H.G. Rev Gee Varghese Ramban expressed his happiness on the conduct of such an informative programme.

Mr. Rehman gave first hand information regarding the study materials needed and the ways to prepare for the Civil Services. He stressed on the regular reading of the newspaper ‘The Hindu’ and said reading editorials of newspapers  is  a crucial and indispensable part of IAS preparation. He also gave emphasis on the AIR spotlight, current affairs, interview programs, Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha TV programs. Sharing the secret of his success  he said,  consistency in efforts and perseverance in character  are very important to achieve the goal.

The session was followed by a lively and interactive question-answer session. Mr. Rehman very patiently addressed all queries.

St.Thomas College Bhilai, has an active CSAC which on a regular basis conducts guidance activities for the preparation of the UPSC. Motivational lectures are also given to the members under this banner.

Convener of the CSAC Dr. Debjani Mukherjee spoke on the utility of such programmes and talked about the future programmes of this club. Dr. Susan Abraham, co convener of the club assisted in organizing the programme and Dr. Sujata Koley conducted the programme.

Hindi Diwas Celebration at St. Thomas College

The Department of Hindi Celebrated ‘Hindi Diwas ‘to commemorate the importance of our National Language on Saturday 17th September 2016  . The Chief Guest of the Program was Dr. Sheela Sharma, HOD of  Dept of Hindi Shaskiya Naveen Mahavidyalaya  and a great litterateur in her field. In her speech she emphasized the students to stay tuned with their national language in connection with the needs of 21st century. She in her words motivated students with the way they use their national language, and also for not forgetting their roots. Principal Dr. M.G. Roymon in his presidential address discussed about the importance of our national language, and that it is the best way of communication.

St. Thomas College Bhilai held the formal ceremony of Oath taking Ceremony on Saturday,10 September 2016 conferring the authority and responsibility to the office Bearers and other representatives of Student Union Council.

The Chief Guest of the function was Mr. Devendra Yadav (Mayor, BMC). In his speech he congratulated the elected office bearers and advised them to take up their duties sincerely and with full commitment. He in his emphasized the  elected members to understand the value of each single  student  and keep the relationship like father and son.

Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius presided over the function, in his presidential address he congratulated and blessed the newly elected office bearers and Class representatives and said that they should uphold the values of the college and discharge their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty with proper team work and  leadership quality and also maintain harmonious relationship between students and teachers. .  Addressing the gathering Principal, Dr. M.G. Roymon in his speech congratulated the newly elected members and asked them to perform their duties and responsibilities sincerely and with full dedication.  Professor Incharge. Dr Sapna Sharma extended her warm welcome by her motivational speech for the elected members.

Principal Dr. M.G. Roymon administered the oath of secrecy to the newly elected office bearers and class representatives.

Kala-Pratibha Competition begins at St. Thomas College.

The Cultural and Literary events held under the aegis of Kala-Pratibha competition was inaugurated at St. Thomas College in a grand manner. The Chief Guest for the occasion was eminent Classical Dancer Dr. Richa Jogendra Thakur, Prof. Govt. W.W.P.P Girls College Durg. The auspicious occasion began by lighting the traditional lamp. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Richa said that such events provide ample opportunity for the students to excel in their area of interest. V. Rev. Fr. George Mathew Ramban, in his presidential address mentioned that St. Thomas College has grown from strength to strength and has earned the coveted position in academics as well as in Co-Curricular and extra-Curricular activities . Principal Dr. M.G. Roymon welcomed the gathering. In his speech he explained the motto of “Kala-pratibha” competition and briefed the students about the various activities held under the aegis of “KalaPratibha “. Addressing the gathering the cultural Co-ordinator Dr. Jayasree Balasubramanian said that ‘Kala –Pratibha is more focused towards ‘talent Search’. The various cultural and literary events are held under Kala- Pratibha which helps to promote the hidden talents of the students in a recreational manner.
