THREE DAYS SKILL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM ON “CULTIVATION OF OYSTER MUSHROOM”

P.G. Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology, Institutional Innovation Council, Entrepreneurship Development Cell and IQAC jointly organized athree-dayskill development program on “Cultivation of Oyster Mushrooms” in collaboration with Jan Sevak Samiti, NGO, Sector-4; Bhilai. Mr. Dinesh Singh, Director of Jan Sevak Samiti was the resource person for the program. He explained the technique ofgrowing Oyster mushrooms in a simple and cost-effective manner. Mushroom cultivation has emerged as a profitable business with low-cost capital investment.Students were trained for various steps in mushroom cultivation which included spawn preparation, sterilization of required materials, preparation of bags and layering method for maximum mushroom yield. The training program started with a explanatory lecture session about types, importance and applications of mushrooms. On the last day of program, students were trained to prepare spawn through mother culture which is considered as an important requirement for any mushroom cultivation.A total of 44 participants were benefittedby this skill development program. Administrator of the college, Rev. Fr. Dr. Joshi Varghese and Principal, Dr. M.G. Roymon, appreciated the program.
