Online Certificate Programme on Research Methodology

The P.G. Department of Commerce and Committee for Promotion of Research in association with Smt. Radhadevi Goenka College for Women Akola Maharashtra has collaboratively organised an Online Certificate course on Research Methodology from  August 5th , 2021 to August 19th, 2021. The Inaugural session of the programme was held on 5th August. Dr. B.G. Singh Vice Chancellor Pt. Sundarlal Sharma Open University, Chhattisgarh Bilaspur , was the chief guest on the occasion. Sir emphasised on the change in the role of research in the present scenario. The Key note Speaker was Dr.Ashutosh Biswal , Prof.Department of Education & Psychology, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda Gujarat . Sir gave a very good suggestion to develop the culture of research in the colleges which will be  valuable for the research scholars and we will be having a good research in future. The Principal of the college Dr. M. G. Roymon Welcomed the guest and the participants and recognised the presence of the manager of the college H.G .Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius .The Principal of the MoU Partner Smt. Radhadevi Goenka College for Women appreciated the initiative taken by the college for this collaborative event . C o- coordinator of the programme Dr. Ambadas. B. Pande Congratulated the department of Commerce of the college for the conduct of this  programme. The programme started with a formal inauguration. 227 participants from various colleges registered themselves including the students , faculty members and research scholars of various institutes, Dr. Sapna Sharma Head, Department of Commerce St. Thomas College  and convener, of the  programme gave the overview of the 15 days activities.Dr. Sonia Popli Asst. Prof. Education department and coordinator of the programme conducted the programme . Vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. Majju Joy. Asst Prof .department of education of St. Thomas College Bhilai. The management and the Administrator of the College Rev. Father Dr. Joshi Varghese congratulated the department and the committee for conducting such programme and opined that such type of programmes will definitely help the research scholars of social sciences to come up with better research.

15 days certificate program on “Mushroom cultivation – Its scope and opportunities” , Organized by Department of Biotechnology and Microbiology

A 15 days certificate program on “Mushroom cultivation – Its scope and opportunities” , Organized by Department of Biotechnology and Microbiology was inaugurated on 02 August 2021 at 11:00 AM. The main objective of this certificate program is to build entrepreneurship skills in the participants so that they can integrate mushroom cultivation in the farming system and enhance their income. Mushroom production is no doubt emerging as a promising agro-based enterprise and this certificate program will develop an ability to select and cultivate appropriate varieties of mushrooms. Principal Dr. M.G.Roymon conducted the gathering and expressed his gratitude towards the certificate program and organising committee. Administrator of College Rev. Father Dr. Joshi Varghese appreciated the efforts taken by Department of Biotechnology and Microbiology for conducting this certificate program. 

Prof. S.K patil Hon’ble vice-chancellor; IGKV, Raipur was the chief guest, in his inaugural address, Prof.Patil insighted that a variety of indigenous edible mushrooms are found in chhattisgarh and many educational and research institutes are constantly working on the nutritional and medicinal values of mushroom and spreading awareness among public. He stressed that commercial production of mushrooms should be scaled up to meet the public demand and that is where the scope of such a certificate program is helpful. Prof. M.P.Thakur, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture in his Keynote address, gave an insight of the types of mushrooms found in the state and their nutritional values. He discussed the medicinal values of mushrooms and revealed the underlying facts that mushrooms can be used to develop immunity against coronavirus, to boost vitamin D levels and also to treat Type II Diabetes Mellitus. 

Dr.Shanthi, Head, Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology looked into all the details of the deliberation for effective conduct of the certificate program.  

Dr.Ujjwala Supe Assistant Professor. Department of Biotechnology conducted the program. Total 102 participants were registered under this online certificate program.

 

Department of Psychology Organises Online Training Sessionon Enhancement of Soft Skills in Specially Abled Children

Department of Psychology, St. Thomas College Bhilai organised an online event with Sarthak Kadam Sansthan a school for specially abled students and MOU partner of the college. The agenda of the program was to spread the awareness regarding the specially abled children and their teaching learning practices. The program highlighted the therapeutic approach regarding the children with autistism, mental retardation, ADHD, cerebral palsy by improving their listening skills, eye contact, body language speech and self awareness.
The main speaker of the session was Anuradha V, Vice Principal, Sarthak Kadam Sansthan, who highlighted the skills that can be developed in specially abled children. She also dealt with the queries of the students.
Administrator of the college Rev. Father Dr. Joshi Varghese praised the efforts of the department. Principal Dr M G Roymonencouraged the program with his best wishes and said such programs benefits the student and their all-rounddevelopment. Dr.Debjani Mukherjee, Head, P.G department of psychology introduced the resource person and stressed on the fact that such training has great importance as it an area of niche work in the development of special children. Mrs. G Vani, Principal of Sarthak kadam Sansthan responded on the parental and society’s role in the care of special children. Dr.Sumita Singh, assistant professor proposed vote of thanks. The program was hosted by Dr.Ankita Deshmukh, assistant professor.

Online Certificate Program on Music

Two week online certificate program on “Classical, Vocal and Instrumental” inaugurated in Dept. of Education St. Thomas College, Bhilai. The trainer of this program will be Mr. Santosh Yadav, Assistant Professor Dept. of Education St. Thomas College. This program will be organized from 7th June to 21st June. The program was started with lighting the lamp and Sarsvasti Vandana by faculties of dept. of education in which Dr. Shabnam khan was on Harmonium and Mr. Santosh Yadav was on Tabla. Dr. Sheeja Thomas HOD, Dept. of education welcomed the guests and said that Music is the main base of human life and culture. Chief Guest and Principal of College Dr. M. G. Roymon gave his best wishes. He discussed the need and importance of music and said that music is the integral part of life. Main trainer of program Mr. Santosh Yadav presented the schedule of program and told that during the sessions training about Harmonium, Tabla, Bhajan and Insights of Ghajal Singing will be given to participants. Dr. Sheeja Thomas appreciated the whole program schedule and gave her best wishes to Mr. Santosh Yadav.  On this occasion Rupa Shrivastava Assistant Professor Dept. of Education conducted the program and proposed vote of thanks.

Certificate Program “Professional Business Skills”

The Department of Management Studies, St. Thomas College, Bhilai started two week certificate program on the title “’Professional Business Skills to develop the business skills in youth according to the changing scenario post Covid. The chief guest of today’s inaugural session was Dr. Aruna Palta, Honourbale Vice Chancellor, Hemchand Yadav Vishwavidyalaya, Durg. First of all Dr. Susan R. Abraham Head, Dept. of Management Studies, St. Thomas College gave a brief introduction about the certificate program and said that as per the industrial requirements, changes and expectations, well known and experienced speakers from industry are included in this program. Principal of College Dr. M. G. Roymon welcomed all the eminent guests and said that on Regular Intervals St. Thomas College organizes such programs for the betterment of students and we are dedicated towards the upliftment of students. Dr. Aruna Palta, Vice Chancellor, Hemchand Yadav Vishwavidyalaya, Durg appreciated the efforts taken by management department and said that this program will help students to develop their decision making, personality and will help them to mould their professional skills as per the industrial requirements. The Speaker of today’s session was well known blogger, story teller, and motivational speaker Dr. Ajit Varwandkar.  He stressed on goal setting and said that today’s youth should select their career on the basis of changing industrial scenario. He said that now a days social media is very helpful for selection of career options. He cleared all the doubts of participants by giving answers to their questions. PG Department of Botany organizes 15 days Online Certificate Program on “Soil Analsis”

PG Department of Botany organizes 15 days Online Certificate Program on “Soil Analsis”. This certificate program stresses on developing basic understanding of soil analysis in the students and enhancing their skill required for soil testing and preparing report regarding soil health. This program will provide job opportunities in soil testing laboratories and will also help to setup of their own Soil testing lab.

The program was inaugurated by the Chairman of the College His Grace, Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius. In his inaugural address His Grace stressed on the importance of Soil Analysis in the current scenario when pollution is taking a toll on human health. His Grace also said that soil analysis will help the students with farming background to develop skills in assessing land suitability for various agricultural and non-agricultural uses and emphasised the need of organic farming as well.

Rev. Fr. Dr. Joshi Varghese, Administrator of the College applauded the initiative taken by the PG Department of Botany on developing a Certificate Program on Soil Analysis. Dr. Joshi Varghese also said that as soil analysis is a valuable farm practice that determines the exact amount of available crop nutrients in the soil, this practical approach must benefit the farmers. Dr. Vinita Thomas, Convenor of the Certificate Programme and Head of Botany Department was the speaker of the inaugural session. Dr. Thomas gave a wonderful insight on Basic Aspects of Soil and said that soil is one of the most important farm assets that provide crops a valuable reservoir of water and nutrients. Each type of soil has its own properties that cannot be changed, such as texture. She also emphasised that one of the most important factors in managing soil quality is regular soil analysis. This was followed by an interaction session with the participants. Dr. Jyoti Bakshi, Programme Coordinator conducted the programme and Dr. Suruchi Parkhi Co-Coordinator of the program assisted in organizing the program successfully.

National Webinar on ‘Entrepreneurship: the need of 21st Century’

“Think Big, Start small and Grow gradually”

Entrepreneurship Development Cell of St. Thomas College, Bhilai organized a National webinar on the topic “Entrepreneurship – The need of 21st century” on 8th May. Prof. Dr. Rajkumar Singh and Mr. MukeshPorwal were the keynote speakers of the event. Prof. Dr. Rajkumar Singh is the Dean R&D and HOD Commerce, School of Management Sciences, Varanasi, U.P. and Mr. MukeshPorwal is an Entrepreneur and the Director of a Home Care Product Manufacturing Company in Bhilai.

The event was organized by Dr. Shubha Diwan,Assistant Professor, Dept. of Biotechnology, Convener of the program assisted by Co-Convener Dr. Sunita Kshatriya, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Commerce, under the guidance of Dr. M.G.Roymon, Principal of St. Thomas College and Dr. Vinita Thomas, Dean Academics. His Grace Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius, Manager Bishop, Fr. Dr. Joshi Varghese Administrator appreciated the whole efforts.

The first speaker, Dr. Singh laid great emphasis on pursuing ideas and working hard. He said, “Think big, but start small and grow gradually.” He explained what cost benefit analysis in start ups is and what ‘hard’ and ‘soft’ thoughts in business are. He also talked about managing one’s business through all the risks, uncertainties and fluctuations in market and that a businessman should always be aware of the GOI’s schemes. After his speech, he cleared the queries of the students.

The second and final speaker of the event, Mr. Porwal focused his discourse on the importance of practical knowledge in entrepreneurship. He shared his personal experience of how he had started working in his father’s establishment as a student to gain work experience, and how he had started his own company after his mother’s name ‘Swarna’. He also talked about his father’s struggles and hardwork and how he gave him a lot of work related knowledge.  He also said that one should never compromise the quality of their products. Dr. Rincey B. Abraham from Dept. of Commerce and Dr. Aparna Ghosh from Dept. of Economics technically assisted for the smooth conduct of the program.  The event was wrapped up with a vote of thanks delivered by co-convener of program Dr. Sunita Kshatriya from Dept. of Commerce.

He explained the various model of Water Harvesting Techniques. The keynote speaker Dr. Rajnikant Sharma explained in detail the various Career Opportunities related to Water Board. He talked about the various chemical aspect of Water needed for Analysis of water Quality. Discussion Session was conducted by Dr. Dipti Jangde. The discussion was very live and questions were answered by the Resource Persons. At the conclusion of the talk, there was a healthy interactive session between the speaker and the participants which came out to fruitful results. At the outset, Patron Rev. Fr. CERTIFICATE PROGRAM COMMENCES IN ZOOLOGY DEPARTMENT

A certificate program on “Inland Aquaculture” has been started in the P.G. department of Zoology of St. Thomas College , Bhilai. The program is of 30 hours duration and lasts from 5th to 15th of June,2021. The modules include topics like sustainable aquaculture,major aquaculture system and practices, monoculture, polyculture, pearl culture, Mussel culture, Socio-economic evaluation of Aquaculture Technologies, etc.

Prof. Dr. Madhusoodhana Kurup, Former and Founder Vice Chancellor of Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies, Chairman, advisory committee, Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Aquaculture,Ministry of Commerce and Industry, was the key note speaker on the inaugural day of the program. The Principal of the College, Dr.M G Roymon welcomed the guests, Dr. Jayasree Balasubramanan,Convener of the program and Head of Department of Zoology briefed the topics and theme of the certificate program and introduced the resource persons. Webinar on Artificial Intelligence

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of St. Thomas College and ICFAI Business School organized jointly one day webinar on the topic Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. The Keynote speaker of this webinar was Professor Raghavendra Rao from ICFAI Business School, Bangalore. In the beginning Mr. Sanjay Ashatkar from ICFAI Business School, Bangalore welcomed all the guests and participants and gave a brief introduction about ICFAI group of schools and the Keynote speaker Professor Raghavendra Rao. Principal of College Dr. M. G. Roymon appreciated the program and said that for last two years when the entire world is facing the pandemic covid-19 and maximum work is going on through computers and by online medium then in this time the importance of artificial intelligence has been increased drastically. This method will be very helpful for youth in near future. The Keynote speaker Professor Raghavendra Rao elaborated the concept of artificial intelligence and said that in the present era of mechanization so many innovations are going on in the field of computers and maximum work in day to day life is performed by automatic software. So now a day’s youth should be well aware about machine language. He explained the functions of machine language in artificial intelligence and said that now driverless cars are running on the road which is the example of excellence of artificial intelligence. During the session Professor Raghavendra also cleared the doubts of participants by giving answers to their queries. All around 100 students and faculties were participated in the webinar. At the end Mr. Sanjay Ashatkar proposed the vote of thanks. The webinar was successfully conducted by Mr. Mahendra Ikhar from Dept. of Management Studies.
