596 Cadets Appeared for NCC C Certificate Practical Examination

C certificate practical examination has been given by the third year cadets of 10 colleges under 37 CG Battalion NCC Durg, 1 CG R.V. Battalion NCC Anjora and 38 CG Battalion NCC Rajnandgaon at St. Thomas College, Ruabandha, Bhilai in offline mode.

In this exam, a total of 596 Senior Division and Senior Wing cadets of 10 colleges under 37 CG Battalion NCC Durg, 1 CG R.V. Battalion NCC Anjora and 38 CG Battalion NCC Rajnandgaon appeared in the C certificate examination. The practical and theoretical C certificate examination of cadets were taken under the joint guidance of Presiding Officer Colonel Chetan Gurubaksh, 27 CG Battalion Raipur and board member of the examination Colonel Ajay Dhawan, 9 CG Battalion Jagdalpur.

NCC C Certificate Examination was conducted and managed by Commanding Officer Colonel Hemant Dubey, 37 CG Battalion Durg, Administrative Officer Lieutenant Colonel R Setu Madhavan, Subedar Major Bhupati Thapa, PI Staffs, J. C. O. and N. C. O as per the guidelines given to NCC and the NCC Officers of 10 colleges under the battalion. The management arrangements and examination work were completed with the joint cooperation of the officials. On the first day of the examination, Foot Drill, Arms Drill, Weapon Training, Map Reading, Field Craft and Field Training practical exam started at 7.30 am today. All the cadets were present till noon for the practical exam. The theory exam has been conducted for 3 hours on the second day of the exam. On the successful conduct of the NCC C Certificate Examination in St. Thomas College Bhilai campus, the administrator of the college, Father Dr. Joshi Varghese and the Principal of the college, Dr. MG Roymon appreciated and congratulated all the cadets.

Celebrated WORLD CONSUMER RIGHTS DAY

The PG. Department of Commerce under the aegis of COMMZENITH & in association with its   MoU partner Smt. Sitabai Arts, Commerce & Science College, Akola (MH) celebrated World Consumer Rights Day on 14th March 2022. Mrs. Maitreyi Mathur Retired, District Judge and Retired President of Consumer Forum, Durg Chhattisgarh  and Advocate Dr. Mayur Navin Malviya, Finance Trainer, Academician and Director of Malviya Academy, Akola Maharashtra were the resource persons on the occasion. Dr. Mayur Malviya Explained the minute details along with different sections of Consumer protection Act and its redressal. Mrs.Maitrey Mathur said that previously there was no need of this Act, but in the present scenario where moral values and ethics are going down, such type of act is required for protecting the innocent consumers that is why this act is enacted in a very simple language. Principal Incharge Dr. Mariam Jacob gave her virtual presence and congratulated the department for the conduct of the program. Convener & Head Department of Commerce of St. Thomas College Bhilai Dr. Sapna Sharma welcomed the participants. The sessions were very informative. Dr. Neelam Gandhi Asst. Prof in Department of Commerce conducted the programme. Co-Converner Dr. Deepali Shah of Sitabai Arts, Commerce & Science College, Akola Maharashtra proposed the Vote of thanks. Faculties and students of both the colleges attended the programme. The Faculties of commerce department of both the colleges coordinated in making the programme a success.

Celebrated World Consumer Rights Day

The PG Department of Economics, St. Thomas College, Bhilai in collaboration with Department of Economics Govt. V.Y.T. PG Autonomous College, Durg celebrated World Consumer Rights Day on 15th March, 2022. The chief guest and the guest speaker of the session was Mrs. Rashul Bhawnani Parwani, Advocate, Consumer Forum, Raipur. At the outset Dr. Shikha Agrawal HOD, Department of Economics Govt. V.Y.T. PG Autonomous College, Durg welcomed the guest speaker and all the participants to the session. Dr. Anshumala, faculty of economics introducedthe speaker by reading out her bio-data.  Speaker of the dayMrs. Rashul started the session by quoting illustrationsfrom dailylife and said that, as a consumer we should be very careful while purchasing a commodity or availing a service. Madam explained in detail the essential rights of a consumer under Consumer Protect Act. She also discussed the channelization of act and told that at first level consumer can file a complaint at district level, then state level and then finally at Central Level. She emphasized on act and said that even though this topic is very general, at the same time related to each and every individual as at one point of time every individual is a consumer.On this occasion Dr. R. N. Singh, PrincipalGovt. V.Y.T. PG Autonomous College, Durg, Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius, Manager Bishop, St. Thomas College, Administrator Rev. Father Dr. Joshi Varghese and Principal Dr. M. G. St. Thomas College, Bhilai, is now a Nodal Centre of Indian Space Research Organisation (IIRS) Outreach Programme

The name of St. Thomas College, Bhilai, is included in the Online Course through IIRS-ISRO E-CLASS Platform under IIRS Distance Learning Programme. Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) at Dehradun is a premier  institute in Remote Sensing and Geo-informatics and their applications through education and training  programmes. Now the students will have an exciting learning experience with IIRS in the field of Remote Sensing, GIS and GNSS technologies and their applications. It is open for all those who are interested in Remote Sensing, GIS and GNSS technologies and its applications.

Students from M.Sc. Physics participated in the following two certificate courses of 2-weeks duration and earned certificates:
(1) 95- IIRS Outreach Programme on Global Navigation Satellite System and Location based services
(2) 96- IIRS Outreach Programme on Hyperspectral and Microwave Remote Sensing Techniques for Geological studies.

Workshop on Developing Interview Skills

P.G Dept. of Psychology and IQAC, St. Thomas College, Bhilai organized one day workshop on development of interview skills in students. The resource person of the workshop was Dr Rajshree Naidu, Assistant Professor in Communication skill ( English) at Shri Shankaracharya Professional university, Durg. Dr. Rajshree an expert on personality development & mental health spoke that a candidate has to be very honest in making his resume. She gave tips on group discussion and how to be the best when discussing in a group. Dr. Rajshree stressed that words express the type of person you are, so when in an interview situation, one should choose words very carefully.

Administrator of the college, Rev Father Dr. Joshy Varghese appreciated the topic of the workshop and stressed that in todays competitive world every student should develop his skills to be a better choice for prospective employers. Principal Dr. M.G. Roymon said the IQAC has to conduct such skill development programs for quality enhancement and we at St. Thomas College are always seeking ways of doing so. Dr. Debjani Mukherjee Head, dept. of psychology welcomed the gathering and said every student should be aware of his positive features and develop himself in such a manner that he stands out in a group. Facing an interview can be challenging and proper development of skills are needed for being successful in interviews and that is what we are seeking through this workshop. Dr. Sumita Singh assistant professor conducted the session and Dr. Ankita Deshmukh assistant professor proposed the vote of thanks. Mr. J Maju with his technical expertise assisted in smooth conduct of the workshop.

INTERNATIONAL FOREST DAY CELEBRATED

The P G Department of Zoology, St. Thomas College,Bhilai, in collaboration with department of Zoology TKM college, Kollam, Kerala, has organized a National Webinar on “Forests and Sustainable production and consumption” to celebrate The International Day of Forest, on 21st of March,2022.  Dr. Kunhamu T K, Professor and Head in the Department of Silvi-culture and Agro-forestry at College of Forestry,  Kerala Agricultural University, Thrissur, Kerala and Dr. Utkarsh Ghate, Director, Village Herbs Co. LTD Madhurai & Durg were the eminent resource persons in the webinar. While speaking on the topic “Forest for Ecological Resilience” Dr. Kunhamu mentioned about the alarming carbon emission all over the world and the need to increase carbon sink by planting more trees. Dr. Utkarsh Ghate spoke on the relevance of Agro-forestry and organic farming for carbon neutrality.

Visit to Old-Age Home by Association of Chemical and Environmental Society(ACES)

Students of P. G. Department of Chemistry, Bhilai made a one day visit to Old Age Home, Pulgaon, (Vrindhashram), Durg as a part of Community Development Program. 30 students and 5 staff of the Department of Chemistry visited the inmates of vrindhashram and interacted with them. Students performed cultural activities for refreshing the mind and also involved in playing games which was highly appreciated by the inmates. Students gave gift packet to them, so that they can daily use for the sanitization purpose. They also enlightened the students by their songs and shayaris. The whole program was conducted by guidance of HOD Dr. James Mathew and Additional HOD Dr. Chanda Verma. Asst. Prof. Dr. Arvind Kumar Sahu, Ms. Mohini Sharma and technical assistant Mr. Anil Varghese extended their helping hand. Excellence in Best Private College awarded to St. Thomas College, Bhilai

St. Thomas College, Bhilai has been awarded as Best College under the event Twin City Education Excellence Award organized by 94.3 MY FM and Dainik Bhaskar Group. The Chief Guest of this program was Honorable Governor of Chhattisgarh Ms. Anusuiya Uikey. She said that the future of country can be brighter only from the role played by educational institutes. On this occasion H. G. Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius, Manager Bishop, St. Thomas College Bhilai was guest of honour. Principal Dr. M. G. Roymon received the excellence award. Administrator of College Rev. International Women’s Day Celebration

The PG Department of English and Women Cell of St. Thomas College, Ruabandha, Bhilai celebrated International Women’s Day. All the students of MA English and the staff gathered on this auspicious occasion to celebrate womanhood. The Day was celebrated to mark the achievement and the recognition of women in various fields. The students of M.A.English actively participated and came forward to commemorate the day by focusing on theme for 2022, International Women’s Day “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”. Principal Dr. M.G. Roymon congratulated the Department for celebrating the International Women’s Day.  Dr. Shiny Mendonce Head, P.G Department of English accorded a warm welcome to the gathering. Dr.Sujata Koley ,(Asst Prof. P.G.Dept. of English) acknowledged the contribution of women to strengthen the society and to create a gender equal world. The special occasion was forged exceptional with the active involvement of male students. Shubhang Das (MA Sem II) stated that the world would be better place for women if the male changed their perception about women and considered them as equal. Sharing his views, Prince Abhishek (MA Sem IV) said that our goal should be to create a gender equal world and to empower women in every field of life. The thoughtful gesture illustrated by the students, reflected their positive mindset. Gaurav Kamble (MA Sem II), Bipasha Ray Sokhey (MA Sem II), Aishwarya Sahu (MA Sem II), Garvita Agarwal (MA Sem IV) and Dinkal Mahilwar (MA Sem IV) and many more students shared their narratives about their mother and the success story behind their life.

A Power Point presentation by Ms. Udayasri (Asst. Prof P.G.Dept.of English) on the topic “Indian Feminist Writers: Breaking the Glass Ceiling.” was held to discuss the contribution of Indian Feminist writers featuring Anita Desai, Arundhati Roy, Kamla Das, Sarojini Naidu and Shashi Deshpande. The presentation was enlightening for the students to recognize the iconic writers who crossed extra miles raising their voice against all the controversies and attacks directed towards them and yet they rose victorious and served as an inspiration for millions. Ms.Susan Ebison( Asst. Prof. P.G.Dept. of English) proposed Vote of Thanks.

Grooming Session on Civil Services

The Civil Services Aspirants Club of St. Thomas College, organized a E-Lecture on ‘Grooming Session on Civil Services’. The keynote speaker of the programme was Mr. Jojo Mathew, Chief Executive Director, Alternative Learning System (IAS Academy), New Delhi. The Programme was graced by Diocesan Education Officer and Administrator, St. Thomas, College Rev. Fr. Dr. Joshi Varghese and Principal Dr. M.G. Roymon. At the outset, welcome speech was given by Dr. Sheeja Varkey, Add. Head, P.G. Department of Commerce, and Convener of the Cell. She said that civil service system is the backbone of the administrative machinery of the country and the officials enjoy immense respect in Indian society. Aspirants who dream to have a career in services like IAS,IPS or IFS, should keep their approach focused to get through the UPSC exam. The Keynote Speaker of the programme, Mr. Jojo Mathew addressed the participants and said that nowadays UPSC Civil Services Cadre is considered as the most
challenging and bright career option for the young & energetic aspirants. He further discussed the pattern of the examination and urged them to improve their vocabulary by reading and memorizing words from the dailies. Students from all the disciplines actively participated in the interactive session. Mr. Jojo Mathew elucidated the doubts & patiently responded to all the queries of the students, which mostly dealt with exam preparation & selection of the optional subject. All the members of the organizing committee of Civil Services Aspirants Club were also present on the occasion. The program was conducted by Dr. Sujata Koley, Asst. Prof, P.G.
