St. Thomas College Bhilai the Bhoomi Pujan of Gym was done by Shri Tamrdhwaj Sahu Honorable Home Minister Government of Chhattisgarh. It is worth mentioning that the amount for this gym is provided by the MLA find. First of all Administrator of College Rev. Fr. Dr. Joshi Varghese welcomed honorable minister by presenting him a bouquet and said that it was demended for the long time by the students for gym facility and today honorable minster accepted our request. The St. Thomas Family will be obliged for the minister. Honorable Minster Mr. Sahu said that the youth is the future of the country and it is very necessary to be fit for the youth because a healthy body keeps a healthy mind. I hope that this gym will be very helpful for the students in future. Honorable Mayor of Risali Municipal Corporation Mrs. Shashi Sinha, Commissioner Risali Municipal Corporation Mr. Ashish Dewangan, Chairmen Risali Municipal Corporation Mr. Keshav Banchhor were also present. On this occasion H. G. Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius, Manager Bishop St. Thomas College Bhilai and Principal Dr. M. G. seminar on Bio-organic preparations

The P.G. Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology of St. Thomas College organized a seminar on “Bio-organic preparations development in farmer’s field for sustainable agriculture in association with MoU Partner Farmlabs, Pune. The objective of this webinar was to make students providing knowledge of organic farming and preparation of Biofertilizer.

Dr. Santosh Chavan, Director, Farmlab Laboratory, Pune was delivered a seminar on Bio-organic preparations.

He told in his seminar that chemical fertilizers are toxic to environment and health. In his talk he gave a good knowledge about different methods for production of Bio-organic preparations. He also discussed the journey of farmer field from last 3 years. He told his experiences regarding preparation of biofertilizers from starting till date. In the seminar Dr. Santosh thanked to government for providing financial assistance and support for Bio-organic preparations.

The principal Dr. M.G. Roymon congratulated all staff members and said that the St. Thomas College regularly organized this type of programme for beneficial to students.

This event was supervised by Dr. V. Shanthi, Dr. Ujjwala Supe, Dr. Shubha Diwan and Mrs. Ekta Saxena, Faculties of Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology.

Incubation and Start-ups in Higher Education” Need of the Hour

Webinar on “Incubation and Start-ups in Higher Education” Conducted at St.Thomas College Bhilai.The PG. Department of Commerce under the aegis of departmental Association Commzenith , ED Cell and Institutional Innovation Council Association, in collaboration with our MoU Patners Rungta College of Engineering and Technology, Bhilai and Smt. Radhadevi Goenka College for Women Akola Maharashtra organized webinar on the topic “ Incubation and Start ups in Higher Education” On 27th May 2022. Dr. Manoj Varghese, Dean IIC, RCET Bhilai and Mr. Varun Agrawal, Owner of Varun Insustries Akola Maharashtra were the resource persons on the Occasion. Dr.Manoj Varghese stressed on How to build a successful Startup.He emphasized on the potential key factors that help to set a start-up avoiding which an individual might not successfully execute the business idea. On the other hand Mr. Varun Agrawal, the second resource person, dealt with the practical need and importance of Incubators and Accelerators in incubating the business idea and then expanding its potential into a medium or large scale enterprise. He shared his personal experiences with the participants. Principal of St. Thomas College Bhilai Dr. M.G.Roymon said that entrepreneurship and startups is the need of the hour and is required for economic development. The participants from both the colleges included the faculties and the students.127 participants registered and attended the program .Dr. Rupa Gupta Asst.Prof. department of Commerce,Smt. Dr. Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar PG college, Dongargaon.
Dr. Suja Varghese Head (Department of Mathematics and Computer Science) welcomed His Grace Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius Chairman St.Thomas Mission, Rev Father Dr. Joshi Varghese Administrator of St.Thomas College, Dr. M.G.Roymon Principal St.Thomas College, Dr. Debjani Mukherjee IQAC Coordinator St.Thomas College, Dr. Shrimati B.N.Meshram Principal Govt. Dr.M.G.Roymon appreciated the department for organising the webinar in such a advanced topic on teaching and learning approach.He said that this is a pedagogical approach for integration of synchoronous and asynchronous learning tools and wished that the participants will have an informative experience with this webinar.
Dr.B.N.Meshram welcomed gathering and said that the topic was relevant during covid and it is used in various subjects and areas. She thanked college to choose such a knowledgeable topic for one day webinar and hoped that students will be benefitted with this.
Shri. L.K.Gavel resource person discussed virtual classroom software and learning management system software and Google classroom tour. In virtual classroom software such as google meet, Zoom, cisco Webex etc.In learning management system software Edmodo and Google sites and Moodle etc.
In Google classroom he explained it as a open source and usage in uploading assignment and assigning grades to students. He explained how to create Classroom in Google classroom and how to create assignments and marking schemes.

Three Day Workshop on Research Methodology in Collaboration with MoU partners Govt. KDR Girls College, Rajnandgaon and Holy Cross Women’s College, Ambikapur

St. Thomas College, Bhilai, P.G Dept. of Psychology, in collaboration with MOU partners Holy Cross women’s college, Ambikapur and Government Kamla Devi Rathi Girls P.G college, Rajnandgaon organized three days online workshop on Basics of Research Methodology.  Resource persons of the workshop were Dr AvantikaKaushil, Assistant Professor, Govt. E.V.P.G College, Korba and Dr. Jay Singh, Associate Professor, University of Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. Dr. Kaushil gave inputs on the topic ‘Data collection and Sampling Techniques’ and spoke that a researcher has to be very honest in collecting appropriate sample and discussed various methods of data collection and sampling techniques.Dr. Jay Singh, gave his expert lecture on ‘Introduction to Basics of Statistics’. It was a very interactive session in which students were introduced to inferential and descriptive statistics, importance of normal probability curve and when to use statistics such as ANOVA, ANCOVA and Factor Analysis.

Administrator of the college, Rev Father Dr.Joshy Varghese appreciated the topic of the workshop and stressed that in todays academic world every student should develop his research skills to be a betterstudent and researcher. Principal Dr. M.G. Roymon said the IQAC has to conduct such academic development programs for quality enhancement.Dr. SR. Shanta Joseph, Principal, Holy Cross women’s college, Ambikapur addressed the gathering in the opening session and encouraged the organisers for their efforts. Dr. Alok Mishra, Principal, Government Kamla Devi Rathi Girls P.G college, Rajnandgaon gave full support for the conduct of the workshop. Dr.Debjani Mukherjee Head, dept. of psychology welcomed the gathering and said every student must know the basics of research methods and statistics as it is very useful in higher education.MoU partner colleges give a platform to students to interact and learn together. Dr.AnkitaDeshmukh, Dr. Mona Makhija and Ms.Divya Singh Assistant Professors of the three colleges conducted the sessions and Dr.Sumita Singh Assistant Professor St. Thomas College, proposed the vote of thanks. LECTURE ON PROSPECTS OF INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH

The P G Department of Zoology, St. Thomas College, Bhilai, has organized an invited talk on “Prospects of interdisciplinary research” on 21st of April, 2022.  Prof. M C Subhash Peter, former Professor and Head in the Department of Zoology at University of Kerala, was the eminent resource person in the program. Dr. Subhash Peter is the Founder Director of Inter University Centre for Evolutionary and Integrative Biology of the University of Kerala. In his lecture he highlighted on the importance of interdisciplinary approach in research. He also stressed on the role of teacher as a facilitator and mentor.

President, St. Thomas mission, His Grace Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius presided over the function. His Grace spoke about the concept of ‘Penta R” for better learning ourcome.Administrator of the College, Rt. Rev. Father Dr. Joshi Varghese and Principal Dr. M G Roymon were present on the occasion. Dr. Jayasree Balasubramanian, Head Department of Zoology, St. Thomas College, Bhilai welcomed the guests. Alumini Interaction

PG Department of Biotechnology and Microbiology, St. Thomas College, Bhilai has jointly organised an alumni interaction and lecture with Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) on 11.04.2022. “The title of seminar was “Scientific illustrations and scientific communications”. The guest speaker was Dr. Disha Chauhan, is an Alumni of St. Thomas College Bhilai. The resource person, Dr. Chauhan is Entrepreneurship & Technology Outreach Consultant, C-CAMP Bangalore. She spoke about different ways of representing scientific data into different modes of communication like research papers, books, articles etc. She talked about the possible career in the field of scientific communications. She interacted with students and made them illustrate their own versions of biological concepts. This activity helped students in visualising information other than textbook knowledge. Number of beneficiaries who attended was 60.

St. Thomas College, Bhilai Students Conducted programs in Govt. Primary School, Ruabandha, Bhilai

The students of Govt. Primary School, Ruabandha, Bhilai were given training on life skills and mental health by the members of Psychology department. Training on increase of memory skills, positive physical and mental health and personal hygiene were given. This work was done under the successful guidance of the Head Master of the school and his teachers. Head of the department Dr. Debjani Mukherjee, Assistant Professor Dr. Sumita Singh and Dr. Ankita  Deshmukh helped their students to carry out the program. Training was given to the students of class III to V of Government Primary School. Along with the training, stationery, food items and sanitizers were also distributed to them. The primary school students very enthusiastically participated in all events. These extension programs were also conducted under the aegis of ‘Aahan’, initiative of the 50th year celebrations of St. Thomas Mission, Bhilai.

The administrator of the college, Father Dr. Joshi Varghese appreciated the efforts taken and the Principal Dr. M.G. Royman encouraged the department to organize such awareness programmes. Faculty of the department Dr. Sumita Singh Assistant Professor and Dr. Ankita Deshmukh, Assistant Professor, accompanied the students and took the guidance sessions.
