Grooming Session on Civil Services

The Civil Services Aspirants Club of St. Thomas College, organized a E-Lecture on ‘Grooming Session on Civil Services’. The keynote speaker of the programme was Mr. Jojo Mathew, Chief Executive Director, Alternative Learning System (IAS Academy), New Delhi. The Programme was graced by Diocesan Education Officer and Administrator, St. Thomas, College Rev. Fr. Dr. Joshi Varghese and Principal Dr. M.G. Roymon. At the outset, welcome speech was given by Dr. Sheeja Varkey, Add. Head, P.G. Department of Commerce, and Convener of the Cell. She said that civil service system is the backbone of the administrative machinery of the country and the officials enjoy immense respect in Indian society. Aspirants who dream to have a career in services like IAS,IPS or IFS, should keep their approach focused to get through the UPSC exam. The Keynote Speaker of the programme, Mr. Jojo Mathew addressed the participants and said that nowadays UPSC Civil Services Cadre is considered as the most
challenging and bright career option for the young & energetic aspirants. He further discussed the pattern of the examination and urged them to improve their vocabulary by reading and memorizing words from the dailies. Students from all the disciplines actively participated in the interactive session. Mr. Jojo Mathew elucidated the doubts & patiently responded to all the queries of the students, which mostly dealt with exam preparation & selection of the optional subject. All the members of the organizing committee of Civil Services Aspirants Club were also present on the occasion. The program was conducted by Dr. Sujata Koley, Asst. Prof, P.G. Dept of English and ended on a high note with the vote of thanks by Dr, Aparna Ghosh, Asst. Prof. P.G. Dept. of Economics.

IQAC and Dept. of Management Studies, organized Webinar on International Human Rights Day

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell and Department of Management Studies, St. Thomas College, Bhilai in collaboration with PG Department of Management Studies, Kristu Jyoti College of Management and Technology, Kerala jointly organized one day Webinar to celebrate International Human Rights Day on 10th December 2021. The Webinar was conducted on the topic Youth Standing up for Human Rights. The Keynote Speaker of the Webinar was Dr. Manjeet Kaur Bal Senior Program Manager Foundation for Ecological Security, Raipur (C.G.). The main aim behind celebrating this day is to improve the physical, social, cultural and spiritual well being and welfare of the vulnerable group of people globally. This year’s Human Rights Day theme relates to ‘Equality’ and Article 1 of the UDHR – “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.” First of all HOD, Department of Management Studies, St. Thomas College, Bhilai Dr. Susan R. Abraham addressed the gathering and said that in the present era all the youth should definitely know about Human Rights. Dr. Manjeet Kaur Bal discussed the basics of Human Rights and explained the Voice, Freedom and Basic Facilities under the definition of Human Rights. Madam told that Equity and Justice is the right of every human being on the earth. Administrator of St. Thomas College, Bhilai Rev. Fr. Dr. Joshi Varghese and Principal Dr. M. G. Roymon appreciated the efforts taken by IQAC and Department of Management Studies. A total of 250 students participated in the webinar from both the Institutes. Program was conducted by Mr. Mahendra Ikhar and Mr. Akash Tamrakar Faculty, Department of Management Studies, St Thomas College, Bhilai and vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Linta Abraham BBA Student, Kristu Jyoti College of Management and Technology, Kerala.

Slogan Writing Competition on World Conservation Energy day

The P. G. Department of Chemistry of St. Thomas College, Bhilai in collaboration with the NSS unit organized a slogan writing competition on 14th December 2021 to celebrate the World Conservation Energy Day. Students from various streams participated in this competition and displayed their slogan in poster forms. The theme of the competition was “conserve energy, save the future”.This competition helped the participants to have awareness about conservation of Energy for future generations. Dr. Joyamma John, Asst. Professor Deptt. of Zoology and Dr. Reema Dewangan, Asst. Professor of Education were the judges of the competition. Dr. James Mathew HOD,         Dr. Chanda Verma, additional HOD and faculties Dr. Arvind Kumar Sahu and Ms. Mohini Sharma arranged the Event successfully and Mr. Mahendra Ikhar NSS officer coordinated the program. Principal Dr. M.G. Roymon congratulated the Prize winners and all the Participants. Ameesha Patel, B.Sc Final year bagged the First Prize, Chanchal Singh of M.Sc (Chemistry)First Sem. Bagged Second and Kusumita Patel stood  B.A First yearThird . Prateek Rajput of M.Sc Chemistry III Sem. and Aanchal Kannoje of M.Sc Chemistry I Sem. Received   the Consolation Prize.

One day program on road safety awareness

Under the aegis of Comm-zenith, Post Graduate Department of Commerce in collaboration with National Cadet Corps, National Service Scheme Unit and IQAC, organized a one-day ‘Awareness Program on Road Safety’. The chief guest of this program was Mr. Gurjeet Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Traffic Department of Durg district and the special guest of the occasion was Mr. Gaurav Vaidya, Business Development Manager, (Maruti Driving School), Bhilai.

Dr. Sapna Sharma, Head, Department of Commerce, welcomed all the guests and students. The college Principal Dr. M.G. Roymon discussed about the responsibility of the youth towards following the traffic rules diligently and inspiring others to do the same. Speaking on the occasion Mr. Gaurav Vaidya, said that the interactive session would create traffic awareness among students which is very important as it makes them sensitive towards the importance of their and others’ lives.

Chief Guest Mr. Gurjeet  Singh while addressing the students highlighted the fact that every year in India near about one lakh fifty thousand people lose their lives in road accidents .The main cause for all the pain and loss of life is the fast and furious driving done by the people. These accidents can be stopped if the traffic rules are properly followed.

Speaking about the traffic signals, Shri Rajmani Singh of the Traffic Department said that today’s youth should not drive under the influence of intoxicants and must use helmets & seat belts. This will not diminish the beauty of youth.

Principal Dr. M.G.Roymon felicitated the chief guest with a memento as a mark of respect. The guests distributed prizes to all the winners of the quiz competition. All the staff members of PG Department of Commerce, Dr Surekha Jawade and students were present on this occasion. The program was conducted by NCC officer Lt. Dr. Laxman Prasad and the vote of thanks was given by Mr. Mahendra Ikhar, Program Officer of National Service Scheme Unit.

Community Service organized by Department of Mathematics and Computer

The inaugural function of the “Zeitgeist Forum,” which was organised by the Department of Mathematics and Computers of St. Thomas College, Ruabandha, concluded on Monday, with the chief guest of the programme, Dr. K. V. Rao, Block Education Officer, Durg, praising the programme and highlighting the teachers’ qualities. The Zeitgeist platform hosts a variety of initiatives in which math and computer science students actively participate. The community programme 2021-22 was also launched at this episode, with 51 kids from Government Primary School, Ruabandha, in attendance. School bags, notebooks, and other stationery products were supplied free of charge to the school’s students under this programme.
His Grace Dr. Josep Mar Dinosius, Manager of St. Thomas Mission, who was present at the session, addressed the audience and said that computers are very useful in today’s world, and that he would organise this programme again in the future. Mrs. Sarita Mandre, the primary school’s headmistress, complimented the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, signed the MoU for inspiring her to live. Fr.Dr. Joshi Varghese, the college’s manager, stated that this is the “Golden Jubilee Celebration” for St. Thomas Mission’s 50th anniversary, and in this episode, he detailed the Golden Jubilee Celebrations programme.
Dr. M.G. Roymon, the college’s principal, who presided over the programme, expressed gratitude to the pupils of Government Primary School Ruabandha for participating in it, as well as the school’s head Mistress. During the programme, books published by Professor Dr. Ujjwala Supe and Dr. Surekha Jawade were released. Dr. Suja Varghese, Head of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, greeted all of the attendees and provided information about the programme.
Ms. Preeti Jain, the programme coordinator, and Mr. Netra Kumar Gupta, the program’s executive director, praised everyone for their contributions to the program’s success. Mr. Santosh Miri, Ms. Manju Karunakaran, and Dr. Smita Suresh Daniel, as well as Assistant Professors of the Stage Operations Department, Ms. Jyoti Devangan and Ms. Sheenu Balyan, also Host the whole programme.

Guest Lecture On “Prevention Of Sexual Harassment”

The Commitee for prevention of Sexual Harassment (CPOSH) of ST.Thomas College Bhilai organized a guest lecture on “Guidelines of Vishaka Act against Women Abuse”. The key note speaker of the programme was Advocate Mr. Ajeet Paul,Criminal Lawyer, District Court Durg (C.G ).
The programme was graced by His Grace Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius, Manager Bishop St. Thomas College and Administrator Rev. Fr.Dr Joshi Varghese. At the outset welcome speech was given by Principal Dr .M.G Roymon, he said that St.Thomas College formed a committee named as CPOSH in the year 2015 for ensure women safety and also ensure guidelines against any kind of sexual harassment within the College premises. At the same time he congratulated the committee members for their sincere efforts for organizing such kind of awareness program every year. He also said that as per the guidelines given by UGC and Supreme Court, all colleges must ensure women safety in premises.
The guest speaker address the programme and shared the vishakha guideline act and its current amendments .He also aware students that what are the rights of women in their respective work premises , under which every women is entitled to report a complaint against any abuse whether it is verbal or any kind wrong gestures or by cyber offence. He also said that it is mandatory for every educational institution to form a committee for prevention of any kind of sexual harassment and to create a healthy environment. The speaker also told how our society is changing with increasing working population of women, it is a very good sign for our society, and we all should respect them.
The convener of the programme was Dr.Aparna Ghosh and Co convener was Dr.Chanda verma,other members of committee, all staffs and students were attended the programme. The memento was presented to guest speaker by Dr. Mariam Jacob. The whole programme was conducted by Dr. Sheeja Varkey, member of CPOSH, and proposed vote of thanks by convener Dr. Aparna Ghosh.

Various Competition organized in St. Thomas College, Bhilai on World AIDS Day

The NSS Unit of St. Thomas College, Bhilai and The P.G. Department of Microbiology & Biotechnology jointly celebrated “World AIDS Awareness Day” on 01 December 2021. AIDS is caused by Human Immunodeficiency Virus that attacks those cells which help the body to fight infections, making the person more vulnerable to other diseases. It is worth mentioning that every year on 1st December World AIDS Day is celebrated to create awareness and positive environment for people suffering from HIV AIDS. Keeping in mind this The NSS Unit of St. Thomas College, Bhilai and The P.G. Department of Microbiology & Biotechnology of St. Thomas College, Bhilai jointly organized Power Point Presentation Competition, Quiz & Poster Competition. First of all Principal of College Dr. M. G. Roymon congratulated all the participants and said that in this manner you all are doing a Nobel work of creating awareness in the society about AIDS and must do it on continuous basis. Both U.G. & P.G. students of the Department actively participated in the competitions held on the topic “Awareness and Social Stigma associated with AIDS”. The quiz was conducted in three rounds. The posters prepared by the students were displayed for judgment. Administrator Rev. Fr. Dr. Joshi Varghese and Principal Dr M.G. Roymon appreciated the students for their active participation in Quiz & Poster competition and Presentation Competition. Power Point Presentation was sponsored by Department of AIDS Control Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, Regional Office Raipur. Total 25 students presented their Presentation in the competition. Sukanya Jena form B.A. Second Year won First Position and Cash Prize Rs. 500, Komal Karia won Second Position and Cash Prize Rs. 300 and Taniya Chakrawarti from B.Ed. 3rd semester scored third position and cash prize Rs.200. The judges of today’s competition were Dr. Sunita Kshatriya, Assistant Professor Department of Commerce and Mr. Akash Tamrakar, Assistant Professor Department of Management Studies. The program was conducted by NSS Volunteers Bidhanshuk Dutta and Aashita Lal and Vote of thanks was proposed by NSS Program Officer Mahendra Ikhar. Principal and all faculty members congratulated the winners of both poster and Quiz competition.

Samanwaya-2021:Inter MGM Fest concludes with glittering Valedictory Ceremony at St. Thomas College Bhilai

M.G.M. Inter-school Fest Cultural Fiesta 2021, hosted by St. Thomas College, Bhilai, virtually drew to a close in a spectacular manner with the Valedictory ceremony.  The mega event saw the participation of 1150 students from 30 schools belonging to 8 states. The ceremony commenced with a fervent prayer to the almighty God presented by the students of M.G.M. HSS Gayatri Nagar, Raipur. The motto of Cultural Fiesta- Samanvaywas to foster creativity, critical thinking and moral values among the students. The  weeklong cultural and literary  events held online comprised of  Dance , Song, Poem recitation , Logo Designing , Creative Tagline,  , Fancy dress, Best out of Waste, Storytelling, Quiz, Coding and Science Model Competition .These competitions provided ample opportunity for the students of M.G.M. Group of Institutions to prepare themselves for real life and thereby to strengthen their personal skills. Fr. Dr. Joshi Varghese, Diocesan Education Officer of MGM Group of Institutions and Administrator, St.Thomas College, Bhilai, heartily welcomed all the Schools, Participants and Dignitaries present for the ceremony. Elaborating on the week-long Fest Fr. Joshi stated that though pandemic has disrupted many avenues of life, but it was anopportunity to revamp the education sector. Most of the curricular and co -curricular activities migrated to the digital platform. Sharing his happiness He stated that the online M.G.M Cultural Fest proved blessing in disguise, asit witnessedmaximum participation of the students from different schools. Fr.also announced about the launch of digital repository, M.G.M Smart Project, Onlineavailability of M.G.M magazine, Darpan and to resumption of  Logos Olympiad  for M.G.M Group of Institutions . H.G. Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius Metropolitan, the Director of DiocesanMission Education Board, delivered the Presidential Address. Expressing the exuberance of the young participants on the Cultural Fest, His grace said that M.G.M.Fest was instrumental in bringing all the Institutions of M.G.M under one umbrella and nurturing fraternity among the staff and students. Applauding all, His Grace said that the Fest was replete with the moments of sharing and togetherness. Shri.TamradhwajSahu, Honorable Minister of Home Affairs, C.G. was invited as the Chief Guest for the Valedictory Ceremony. Hon’ble Minister said that it was commendable that amidst the challenges of pandemic, the M.G.M.Group of Institutions has taken the initiative to engage students in Cultural Fest and focused on the overall development of students.ShriShahnawaz, IAS, Principal Director of School Education Govt. of Nagaland , guest of honour lauded the efforts taken by the M.G.M. Group of Institutions to connect with students of MGM Schools of different states. It was indeed a learning experience for all the students and Teachers. Results of the various Literary and Cultural events were announced virtually by Dr. Susan R. Abraham (Head , Dept. of Management).

MGM Sr. Sec. School won the championship while MGM English School Rourkela became the runner up. M.G.M Public School Bhilai bagged the trophy for the 2nd runner up. The Valedictory ceremony was marked by incredible dance performances by the students of M.G.M. H.S.S, Rourkela, St. Mary’s Jabalpur, M.G.M. Public School Bhilai, Mar Baselios VidyaBhavan, Bhilai, M.G.M. Sr.S.S, Sector-6, Bhilai. The students of M.G.M. Sr.SS, Sector-6, Bhilai enthralled the audience with their group song. Dr. ShubhaDiwan encapsulated the entire event and conducted the program. Rev.Fr. Reji C Varghese, Principal, M.G.M. H.S.S , Bokaro proposed vote of Thanks and expressed gratitude to all who were behind the smooth conduct of M.G.M Fest Samanvay -2021. Rev. Fr. workshop on National Constitution Day

The NSS and NCC unit of St. Thomas College, Bhilai jointly organized one day workshop on topic “Youth Awareness towards Constitution” on occasion of National Constitution Day on 26th November, 2021. The chief guest and Keynote Speaker of today’s session were Mr. Rahul Sharma, JMFC and Secretary District Legal Services Authority, Durg. First of all NSS Program Officer Mr. Mahendra Ikhar welcomed all the guest and participants and said that along with the rights the youth should also take care of their duties towards society and country. Principal of College Dr. M. G. Roymon said that Constitution tells us to live with unity and integrity. Keynote Speaker Mr. Rahul Sharma said that in present time youth is more influenced from social media but we have to be very careful about social media that we should not post about anyone’s personal and religious matter. Mr. Sharma also discussed about Pocso Act, Motor vehicle Act and Insurance Act. Students cleared their doubts during the session by asking questions. At the end NSS Program Officer Mr. Mahendra Ikhar conducted the Oath Taking of constitution. On this occasion NCC Officer Lt. Dr. Surekha Jawade, Lt. Dr. Laxman Prasad, Prof. Dr. Rajan Yadav, Dept. of Hindi, Indira Kala aivn Sangeet University Khairagarh and other faculty members were present. St. Thomas College Bids Farewell to Dr. Vinita Thomas

The Management of St.Thomas College Bhilai, organised a formal Farewell Ceremony for the Founder staff member and Dean Academics Dr.Vinita Thomas, (Professor and Head, PG Department of Botany) who left the job due to failing health . Present on the occasion were Rt. Rev.Fr. Thomas Ramban , Vicar MGO Cathedral and Administrator of the College , Rev. Fr.Dr. Joshi Varghese.

Dr. Vinita  Thomas was given a floral welcome and a brief introduction to her 37 years of  commendable contribution to the institution was enumerated. Principal of the college , Dr. M.G.Roymon, extended a warm welcome to the gathering. Delivering the welcome speech Dr. Roymon said that Madam Vinita Thomas was one of the pillar of the college and   has worked tirelessly for 37 years with dedication to  take the college to new heights . Rt. Rev. Fr. Thomas Ramban said that Madam Vinita was a beacon of strength and knowledge and wished her a peaceful and healthy life ahead. Administrator of the college Rev. Fr, Dr. Joshi Varghese appreciated Madam Vinita for her sharp acumen and exceptional qualities as a teacher which has left  an indelible impression on others  . Fr.Joshi shared admirable messages of the Faculty members which highlighted her qualities and service to the college .Dr. Mariam Jacob ,Head, Dept. of Economics and Dr. Chanda Verma , Addl. Head, Dept. of Chemistry  shared their  bonding and cherished memories with Madam during her stay in the college. Dr. Suruchi  Parkey, Asst. Prof Dept . of  Botany an alumni and  presently working as Asst. Prof in  the Dept . of Botany said that she was deeply indebted to Madam Vinita Thomas for guiding and shaping her future. Mr. Palouse  gave a beautiful speech highlighting  the mentoring of Vinita Madam in the professional life of other teachers and staff members .A poignant  farewell song was sung by Dr.Chanda Verma and Mr. Anil Varghese (P.G. Dept of Chemistry) . A newly developed College Website designed by Madam Thomas was launched during the ceremony.

The Management and staff of the college presented a token of gratitude   to Dr. Vinita Thomas for  her  estimable service to the college. Delivering a thanking note, Dr. Thomas  said that her heart is filled with sense of gratitude to  St. Thomas fraternity for the unmitigated love, appreciation and for having accepted her as an integral part of the college . The programme was conducted by Dr. Jyoti Bakshi, I/c Head , P.G. Dept of Botany . Dr. Pratik Kumar Sharma, Asst.Prof P.G.Dept of Commerce proposed vote of thanks.
