A Good Editing is one that can’t be seen

A workshop on Design, Graphics and Editing was organised by the Journalism and Mass Communication Department of St. Thomas College, Ruabandha  in the college premises. 

Mr. Devendra Shukla, who specializes in documentaries and editing introduced the students to film-making, editing and graphics. He shared his experience and knowledge with the students through a lecture and his documentaries. All the students of the Journalism and Mass Communication Department participated in the event under the supervision of Principal, Dr. M.G Roymon and Dr. Aparna Ghosh, HOD of JMC.

The workshop was started off with college prayer, followed by a Welcome speech by faculty member Dr. Aditi Namdev. Then the guest began his lecture about editing. He said that a good editing is one that cannot be seen. He told the students about the various types of cut in editing. He also showed various documentaries that he had made. The students were inspired by this workshop and gained much knowledge. Faculty members Md. Zakir Hussain and Dr. Aditi Namdev honoured the guest on behalf of the entire college. The workshop was successfully coordinated by Silvi Banerjee and Saba Khan.

Awareness Rally by NCC Unit

NCC Unit of St. Thomas College Bhilai organized an awareness rally in the Ruabandha sector on the occasion of World Aids Day. Principal of the college, Dr. M.G. Roymon flagged off the rally in which all the senior wing and senior division cadets actively participated. The cadets cameup with the slogan “Stop AIDS, Keep the promise”. Cadets organized World Aids Day campaign, designed to offer support for those living with the disease, education for those trying to prevent transmission of the disease, and remembrance for those who have lost their battle to HIV or AIDS. College Administrator, Rt. Rev. Fr. George Mathew Ramban, appreciated this initiative by the cadets. ANO Lt. Dr. Surekha Jawade and Lt. Dr. Laxman Prasad were also present on this occasion.

Constitution Day Celebration

Every year Constitution Day is celebrated on 26th November in the College. St. Thomas College, Bhilai observed this day on Tuesday 26th November 2019. The Chief Guest for the Occasion was Principal Dr. M.G. Roymon. Other dignitaries present were, Student Union In-charge Dr. Suja Varghese, Dean Academics Dr. Vinita Thomas and President of Student Union council Ms. Sabya Neha Tirkey.

Dr. Suja Varghese gave the welcome speech. Dr. M.G. Roymon Principal of the College in his Presidential speech emphasized students to follow honestly the Preamble of the constitution and lead the country to the path of success and understand the motive behind today’s celebration, Principal administered the preamble of the constitution and led everyone in taking the pledge. The NCC /NSS Cadets and other students of the college presented a informative knowledge of the day through documentary film. The program was graced by maximum number of staff members and students. Ms. Pushpita Saha beautifully conducted the program.

ST. THOMAS COLLEGE EMERGES WINNERS AT HEMCHAND YADAV VISHWAVIDYALAYA, YOUTH FESTIVAL, 2019

The talented brigade of St. Thomas College, Bhilai added shine to its sparkling fame by representing itself in inter-Collegiate Youth Festival held at various Colleges organized by Hemchand Yadav University, Durg. The Competitions in various categories were Literary events and elocution, theatre, Skits, Dance Fine Arts, Light Music, Debate, Classical And many more .  The students participated in various catagories and got selected in Inter-University Level Competition. Miss Anushka Pandey excelled in Light (Vocal, Indian),  in Classical Vocal (Solo)Miss Sanskriti  Sen got the opportunity to represent the inter- University level,  in group Song  Miss Renuka Tripathi, Miss Aunshka Pandey, Miss .Shrishti Singh, Mr. Shubhanshu Tiwari , Miss Sanskriti Sen and Mr. Mehul Sharma got selected. Debate (against) Ms. Soumya  Chelak , in Fine arts and  Poster Making Miss Minal Dehri, ,garnered glory . The budding artists of St. Thomas brought laurels to the college and University by bagging numerous position in these competitions. On this triumphant accomplishment, The College Management, Manager Bishop His Grace Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius, College Administrator Rev. George Mathew Ramban and Principal Dr. M.G. Roymon, Deans Academics Dr. Vinita Thomas, and other staff members appreciated efforts of the students in adding another feather to the cap of St. Thomas.  The college also congratulated the   untiring efforts of the convener Dr. Jayshree Balasubramanian and all the members of Cultural Commiittee on this momentous victory.

All 1st & 3rd semester students of   M.A,  M.Com, M.Sc, B.Ed  and  PGDCA 1st Semester (Main, ATKT &  Ex-student) and BBA-1st, 3rdsemester (Main, ATKT &    Ex-students) and BBA-5th  semester (Main) are informed to fill the Online Examination Form available in Durg University website from 02.11.2019 and submit the hard copy along with other documents in the college  office by paying Rs. 30/- before 09.11.2019.

The  online exam  form  is  available  at  ww.durguniversity.in website.

NOTICE

Half Yearly Examination for the session 2019-20 will be conducted from 18th November 2019.  It is mandatory for all I, II & III  year of B.A, B.Sc, B.Com & B.C.A  students to attempt this examination.  Time table has been displayed on the Notice Board.

The exam will be conducted paper wise for each subject and the maximum marks for each paper will be as per the University pattern.

According to the University order 10% of the marks obtained in each paper will be added to the final examination marks.

The students who fail to give the Half Yearly Exam will be marked ABSENT.

National Unity Day Celebration

On today 31st October 2019, St. Thomas College celebrated National Unity Day and took a pledge for national unity of the country. Principal Dr. M. G. Roymon said that in the year 2014, the newly elected central government passed an ordinance for celebration of national unity day. Today is the 144th Birth Anniversary of Iron Man Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel. He played a significant role for the freedom of India against British Rule and also he contributed for unity and integration of India. For his valuable and memorable contribution 31st October is celebrated as National Unity Day from the year 2014 onwards. After this program St. Thomas College organized a Speech Competition titled “Vigilance Awareness Week, 28th October to 02nd November 2019” in collaboration with Vigilance Department, Sail B.S.P. Gurpreet Kaur got secured first position in the competition, while Anurag Kumar and Yoshita Sahu secured Second and Third position respectively. On this auspicious occasion the college Administrator Very Rev. Fr. George Mathew Ramban, Dr. Vinita Thomas, Dean Academics, Dr. Jayshree Balasubramaniyam, Heads from various departments, Professors and students were present.

Oath Taking Ceremony for newly nominated Student Union Council Members

St. Thomas College organized Oath Taking Ceremony for newly nominated Student Union Council Members on 4th October 2019 at College Conference Hall. On this occasion Dr. Aruna Palta, Honorable Vice Chancellor Hemchand Yadav University was the chief guest. The College Administrator Very Rev. Father George Mathew Ramban was the president on today’s occasion. The program was started with the college prayer. Student Union Incharge Dr. Suja Varghese said in her welcoming speech that all the office bearers should always maintain the dignity of the college and to work for the betterment of the students as well as the college. Principal Dr. M. G. Roymon congratulated the new office bearers and said that it is the duty of each and every student to maintain the discipline and prestige of the institution. Then all newly nominated office bearers President Ms. Sabhya neha Tirkey, Vice President Ms. Pushpita Sahu, Secretary Ms. Pallavi Sharma, Joint Secretary Ms. Soumya Shrivas, Cultural Secratray Ms. Taniya Chakaraborty and Sports Secretary Mr. Vikas Singh took Oath by Principal Dr. M. G. Roymon. Then after all the class representatives took the oath. Chief Guest Dr. Aruna Palta motivated students by discussing the story of famous basketball player Michel Jordan that every student should take initiative personally to become successful in the life. She said that St. Thomas College has all the updated facilities and surely the college will get A grade in the next NAAC inspection. On this occasion Dean Academics Dr. Vinita Thomas, Professors and staff members from various departments and students were present. Vote of thanks was proposed by Vive president Student Union Council Ms. Pushipta Sahu and program was conducted by Dr. Susan Abraham head Department of Management studies.

STUDENT SOLAR ASSEMBLY WORKSHOP ORGANISED AT ST. THOMAS COLLEGE

2nd October 2019, the 150th Birth Anniversary has been celebrated as Energy Swaraj on the lines of Mahatma Gandhi’s epitomized philosophy of “Gram Swaraj.” Energy Swaraj is when the communities start generating and consuming their own energy needs. Therefore in association and support by IIT Bombay, Mumbai one day workshop on Student Solar Assembly (SSA) was conducted at Department of Physics & Electronics, St. Thomas College, Bhilai.  . The Principal            Dr. M. G. Roymon was especially present during the event. There were 50 participants in this workshop where the participants assembled the solar study lamp themselves and owned the lamps. Besides students and faculties from St. Thomas College, students and faculties from nearby schools and colleges and residents from nearby society also participated. Dr. Mohan Patel, Head of the Department, Mrs. Tulika Harshit and Mr. Amit Kumar Tamrakar were the trainer for the workshop
