Mar Theodosius Memorial Basketball Tournament held at St Thomas College

The 6th Mar Theodosius Memorial Inter Collegiate Basketball Tournament for men was inaugurated at St. Thomas College Bhilai. Different Colleges from Durg District participated in the tournament. Chief Guest for the inaugural ceremony was the Manager Bishop of the College His Grace Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius. In his presidential address His Grace said that Late Manager Bishop was a missionary, visionary and a philanthropist, who always emphasized on maintaining a cordial relation with all the educational institutions. He further said that the Basketball tournament held every year is instrumental in keeping up the sacred memory of the Late Lamented Manager Bishop of the College. Principal of the College.

Dr. M.G.Roymon welcomed the gathering and enumerated on the various contributions made by Late Manager Bishop in the field of education and other social services. Administrator of the college Rt. Rev. Fr. George Mathew also graced the occasion. The inaugural match was played between Science College, Durg and Swaroopanand College, Hudco.  Science College defeated the opponent team by 52- 22 points .The other match was played between Surana College and CSIT in which Surana College won the match by 17 points. In another match played between Govt.  College Bhilai 3 and Shri Shankaracharya College Sec-6 , the Govt. College Bhilai- 3,  lost the match by 7 points . St. Thomas College, Bhilai defeated  Govt. VIPRA College and  headed for the Semi – final match. St. Thomas College defeated their opponents and qualified for the Semifinal.

Present for the inaugural ceremony were co-coordinator of sports Dr. Ashok Mishra, Sports officers from different colleges, Dr. Vinita Thomas, HOD, Dept of Botany  and Dr. Sapna Sharma , Professor Incharge Student Union, President Student Union  Aman Preet Singh Rekhi , other office bearers ,  students   and other members of the college.

Swatch Bharat Pakwada

The Eco Club is  organising  a  15 day cleaning mission program  of the college campus  ” Swatch  Bharat  pakwada ” which  was inuagrated on 3 rd November    by the principal Dr. M.G. Roymon. This mission  will  continue  till 15 Nov 2016. Students and Staff members of  the college participated in it and took  pleadge to  keep our surroundings clean and plastic free.

St. Thomas College Team becomes  Hand Ball Champion..

Intercollegiate District Level Hand Ball (men) Tournament was won by St. Thomas College Team. Tournament was decided on Knock out Basis, The inaugural match was played between St. Thomas College and Surana College, in which St. Thomas College defeated its opponent by 15-4. The Final Match was played between St. Thomas College and Kalyan College in which St. Thomas College won the Final Match and was declared Winners by 10 points. Different Colleges from Durg District participated in the tournament.  Administrator of the College V.Rev.Fr.George Mathew Ramban , Principal of the college Dr. M. G. Roymon ,Mr. K.N. Verma Sports Officer and members of the staff congratulated the students for their outstanding  performance in the  tournament.  .

Community Services

Student Union Council Organizes Community Service

Student Union Council of ST. Thomas College under the aegis of IQAC Cell organized a community Service program at Gram Pithora. The motive behind the service was, to disseminate literacy Campaign throughout the villagers and make them conscious about the harmful effects of deadly Tobbaco and narcotic substances. The service given by the students were through Anti –Narcotic Rally distributing pamphlets and live performance of skit. The villagers were also made apprehensive with the various schemes runned by the State Govt for their upliftment.

To promote the motto of “Beti Bacho, Beti Padao “students performed an informative skit. The villagers actively participated in the program and were acknowledged by the college for their future development. Prof in charge of the student union Council Dr. Sapna Sharma along with Mrs Shanu Mohanan (an active Social reformer) led this awareness program. Mrs. Mohanan gave her valuable advice for the smooth conduct of the program.Dr. Ashok Kumar Mishra HOD Dept of Commerce, Dr. Bhuvana Venkataraman, Mr. Sandeep Bhawnani  Mr, Prateek Chateerjee  of Dept of Commerce  and Office Bearers of Student Union Council  encouraged the students by their presence.

Women Cell conducts Training Program on Women’s Safety

Women Cell  conducts Awareness Training Program on Women’s Safety held at St. Thomas College

St. Thomas College under the aegis of Women Cell organized a Workshop and awareness Training Program for both boys and girls on  5 th September 2016.

The program was also held to make girl students aware with their responsibilities and how they can protect themselves in adverse situation.

Madam Navi Monika Pandey , Inspector ,Sec-6, Bhilai Thana  was a Chief Guest on the Occasion, other  Dignitories present were  DSP Mrs. Beena,   Mr. Rana Marshal Art Trainer  and the principal of the college Dr. M.G. Roymon.

Dr. Shiny Mendonce Convenor of the Cell welcomed the gathering. Dr. M.G. Roymon, Principal of the College, in his speech appreciated the step taken by the cell and also congratulated the team of Chhattisgarh police Academy for their outstanding contribution for the welfare of the women’s safety.

In her speech Inspector  Navi Monika Pandey  made the students aware with the helpline numbers 1091, 100 and whatsapp No 7247001091 provided by the Chhattisgarh Police Academy for the protection of women from the tragic incident  they suffer through out .

Mr. Rana, the Marshal Art Trainer with his subordinates gave a practical knowledge of women safety tricks; he also appealed the girl students to raise their voice against any such type of violence.

The Speaker also had a interaction Session with the girls and made them aware with the importance of their rights to fight against domestic and outside violence. Students took active participation in giving the demonstration on self reliance techniques. The program was conducted by Dr. Shiny Mendonce.

Dr. Shail Khare (Gynecologist) CHMO, Durg

 The Student Union Council and NCC Wing of St. Thomas College Bhilai organized a Medical Camp, under the aegis of IQAC of the college. Dr. Shail Khare (Gynecologist) CHMO, Durg, was the chief Guest and Dr. Swati Rao was the special guest. Inaugurating the medical camp Dr. khare spoke about health and healthy food habits, and Dr . Rao spoke about oral hygiene. The camp was held with a motive, to spread awareness among the students to lead safe and Healthy life and to abstain from Tobacco and other narcotic substances. Students were also sensitized about the various diseases arising due to fast food.

Medical Check up for Girls

Eighty seven students as well as staff members undertook the checkup under the supervision of the doctors. The students were l informed about the various health programs organized by the state government. The doctors further emphasized that, the patients of Hypertension , Diabetes, Heart diseases, and other chronic diseases can directly approach to the District hospital Durg as well as the team members present in the camp. The staff and the students of the college actively participated and coordinated in making the camp a success. Principal of the college Dr. M.G. Roymon appreciated the efforts taken by the Student Union Council and the NCC unit.  Dr. Sapna Sharma ,Professor in charge student union spoke about the anti- Narcotic cell of the College and various activities held by the Cell.. President of the Student Union council Mr. Amanpreet Singh Rekhi and Joint Secretary Mr. Jayan Mishra gave their voluntary support. The NCC Wing actively  participated in the Medical Camp . The overall program was conducted  by Lt. Mrs Surekha Jawade.
