Independence Day Celebrations at St. Thomas College
The 71st anniversary of India’s Independence was celebrated with great zeal and gaiety at St. Thomas College, Bhilai. The auspicious occasion began with offering floral tributes to the Martyrs, of freedom struggle. Principal of the college Dr. M.G.Roymon expressed his greetings on the occasion. He in this motivational speech said about the truest sense of freedom which comes from practicing it. Apart from India’s glorious past he spoke about the problems which India is facing today from terrorism and corruption. He further emphasized that in order to strengthen India’s democracy it is very important to mold its youth and that is going to be the real service to the nation.
Members of the staff of the college shared their views on this particular day and motivated the students for having good thoughts and actions. Students from various streams also shared their patriotic views. Various cultural programs by the students added color to the Independence Day celebrations. Flute played by Uday the student of Computer science department mesmerized the crowd. Members of the staff, NCC Cadets, NSS Volunteers and a large number of students were present on the occasion and showed their patriotic spirit in various events like patriotic song, speech and poems. The colorful program concluded with our National Anthem “Jana Gana Mana” which filled the ambience with patriotic fervor. Mrs. Deepti Santosh conducted the proceedings of the program.
