St. Thomas College Bhilai celebrated St. Thomas Day on 3rd July 2018.The auspicious occasion marks the remembrance of the patron saint Thomas who was among the 12 disciples of Jesus Christ. The Chief Guest of the Occasion was Administrator of the college Rev.Fr George Mathew Ramban. The program began by offering floral tribute to the portrait of St. Thomas. In his presidential address Rev. Father George Mathew Ramban said that it was appropriate to begin the new academic session by paying homage to the patron saint St. Thomas and seeking his blessings. He also threw light on the life of St. Thomas and emphasized to follow virtuous path and to lead a good and successful life.

Principal of the college Dr. M.G. Roymon welcomed the gathering. He further discussed about the vision and mission of our patron saint Thomas and the preaching he devoted towards mankind. The occasion was further carried away by the spiritual and devine thoughts of some of the college professors. Dr. Surakha Jawade Head Department of Hindi, Mr K .Paoulose from Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology spoke about the life history of the pious saint. Dr. Aparna Ghosh Asst. Prof Dept of Economics discussed the life history of St. Thomas through her wonderful power point presentation. The program was conducted by Dr. Sujata Koley Asst. Prof Department of English and Vote of Thanks was proposed by Dr. Sheeja Varkey Asst. Prof Department of Commerce. .

St. Thomas College organized an induction program for newly admitted students. The program was conducted in two shifts. The Chief Guest of the program was Mr. Himanshu  shekhar Mandavi  Asstt. Registrar of Hemchand Yadav Vishwavidyalaya, Durg .In his speech he appreciated the students for attending the function in such a big strength and emphasized on the efforts and gestures of the students for choosing their best career option. Rev. Father George Mathew Ramban in his presidential speech congratulated the students for their future prospects and asked them to continue with the same discipline throughout their education tenure., Dr. M.G. Roymon Principal of the college welcomed the chief Guest and the students .In his speech he threw light on the achievements of the college and also congratulated the students for their bright future ahead. He further administered the oath of Anti Narcotic Movement. Both the sessions followed by the welcoming speech of Various Departmental head , Dr. Vinita Thomas Head Dept of Botany, Dr. James Mathew Head, Dept of Chemistry , Dr. Chanda Verma Addl Head Dept of Chemistry , Dr. Suja Verghese Head Dept of Mathematics and Comuper Science and in the Second Shift Dr. Debjani Mukherjee Head Dept of Psychology , Dr,. Sapna Shama  Addl Head Dept of Commerce put forward their views regarding the college. The Alumni’s of different department of the college Miss sonali singh and Miss manisha Jain shared their views with the students through audio video and their physical presence. They further explained the students about the various duties of the college. The program was well co-ordinated by Dr. Susan R. Abraham Head Dept of Management Studies and Dr. Shubha Thakur Asst. Prof Dept of Microbiology and Biotechnology,. The effective feedback was obtained from the students. Throughout the session students were well aquainted with various activities of the college and also their duties towards them. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Jyoti Bakshi and Dr. Sujata Koley Asst. Prof Dept of English Simultaounesly.

AGAAM – A Fest of St Thomas College Organised


 Aagam 2018 celebrated at St. Thomas College:

Mr Devendra Yadav , Mayor Durg,  Chhattisgarh graced the ceremony as a chief guest

 St. Thomas college Bhilai Celebrated  Aagam in a magnificent way, Mr Devendra Yadav , Mayor Durg,  Chhattisgarh graced the ceremony as a chief guest. In his highly motivating speech Mr. yadav appreciated the college for successfully organizating the three day cultural fest -Aagam. He also appreciated the graceful performances of the students in both academic and co-curricular activities. He further urged the young crowd to participate in such platform where they can reflect themselves in front of this world. He also motivated the students to cross the obstacles and face challenges in life with ease and insisted them to explore their potential in such programs. Principal Dr.M.G.Roymon in his address discussed about this glorious institution and stated that college indeed has a lot to celebrate as it looks back to the 34 years of its existence. He also focused on the triumphs and achievements of the college throughout these years. He also reflected the college position in very high in the educational map of India with academic, cultural and sports excellence and also he stressed the contribution of the college in rendering community services among the downtrodden students in various schools. He congratulated the student union members for maintaining their discipline throughout these three days of celebration.  Dr. Debjani Mukherjee Incharge of student’s union council welcomed the gathering. Administrator Rev. Fr George Mathew Ramban blessed the gathering. Other dignitaries present in the occasion were President student union Ms. Simran Whadwan, Vice President Ms Manisha Chandra, Secretary D.Shrishti , and Joint Secretary             M. Arehita Shrivastava & Cultural Secretary Mr. Shubham Busari. Trophies and certificates were distributed among the outstanding students who represented college at National and all India central zone inter- university tournament. The 34thannual Day ceremony concluded with the closing ceremony of the three day cultural fest Aagam. Various events like singing, dancing  and face of Aagaam were held successfully. The program was conducted by Dr. Sheeja Varkey,          Asst. Professor (Commerce Dept),  and the vote of thanks was proposed by D Shrishti .




Mar Theodosieus Cricket Match on 26 th January


On the occasion of 69th Republic Day of India, an Inter College Faculty Cricket Match was held between St Thomas College, Ruabandha and Christian College of Engineering and Technology (CCET), Bhilai at the latter’s campus. To encourage healthy competition amongst peers and showcase our nation’s motto of Unity in Diversity, this annual match is held in the memory of the founder of St Thomas Mission, Late Lamented Bishop Dr Stephanos Mar Theodosius. To inspire and motivate their teams the Executive Vice Chairman of CCET, Fr Jose K Varghese, the Bursar Fr Aju K Varghese, the Principal of St Thomas College, Dr M G Roymon were present at the CCET’s cricket ground along with faculties and students. This match was inaugurated with a friendly spell of Fr Jose K Varghese faced by Dr M G Roymon. After winning the toss, St Thomas College scored at a blistering pace and thanks to a rapid-fire 48 runs by Mr Mahendra, they were able put a mammoth total of 125 runs in just 12 overs. The run chase by CCET started smoothly thanks to a blitzkrieg by Mr Shadab Imam and Mr Anil David. At this point the target seemed within grasp but due to tightly controlled and disciplined spells of Best Bowler of the Match, Mr Ashok and Man of the Match, Mr Mahendra, CCET were left to score 17 runs in the penultimate over. At this point CCET capsized under pressure and fell short by 13 runs to concede the third Mar Theodosius Tournament to St Thomas Ruabandha. The Man of the Match was awarded to Mr Mahendra due to his exploits by both bat and ball. Best Batsman of the Match was given to Mr Shadab Imam, Best Bowler of the Match was won by Mr Ashok and Best Fielder of the Match was given to Mr Anil David. The prizes were distributed by the Bursar of CCET, Fr Aju K Varghese, who had encouraged each and every player. Fr Jose K Varghese and Dr M G Roymon extended their heartfelt gratitude to the organizers of this tournament.

Workshop on Electronic Herbarium at St. Thomas College, Bhilai


A Two day workshop on Electronic Herbarium and Digital Database of Dicot Plants was organized by the PG Department of Botany at St. Thomas College, Bhilai on 18-19 November for faculty and MSc students. Principal Dr. MG Roymon congratulated the department for organizing the workshop. Prof. T. Shrinivasu from the Department of Botany, RTM University Nagpur conducted the workshop where he shared the methodology and application of Electronic Herbarium in detail. Prof. Srinivasu also gave Hands on Training to all the MSc students and the faculty Dr. Vinita Thomas (HOD), Dr. Jyoti Bakshi, Ms. Tarinee Sahu and Ms. Seepiyaan Dalal of the department. Ms. Reshma Chouhan, MSc III Sem and Mr. Sarvar Ahmed,  MSc I Sem students appreciated Prof. Srinivasu for introducing them to the  user friendly software.

St. Thomas College Re-accreditated at B++ Grade

  St. Thomas College, Bhilai has got re-accreditated with B++ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, Bangalore (with CGPA 2.77 out of 4.00). The three member NAAC peer team visited the college on 18th and 19th of September, 2017. The assessment is based on the standards of quality as set by NAAC.

The Manager of the College, His Grace Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius, College Administrator Rev. Fr. George Mathew Ramban, Principal of the college, Dr. M. G. Roymon congratulated the teaching and non – teaching staff members for the re-accreditation of the college at B++ level.

Oath Taking Ceremony held at St. Thomas College Bhilai

St. Thomas College Bhilai held the formal ceremony of Oath taking Ceremony of conferring the authority and responsibility to the office Bearers and other representatives of Student Union Council.

The Chief Guest of the function was Mr.Shashi Mohan Singh Additional SP, Bhilai, District Durg CG.  In his speech he congratulated the nominated office bearers and advised them to take up their duties sincerely and with full commitment. He in his speech emphasized the nominated members to understand the value of their post and perform their responsibilities equally towards their academic and student union council, and keep the relationship of brotherhood with full efficiency. Professor Incharge.Student Union Council, Dr Debjani Mukherjee extended her warm welcome by her motivational speech for the elected members.

Principal Dr. M.G. Roymon Addressing the gathering, in his speech congratulated the newly nominated members and asked them to perform their duties and responsibilities sincerely and with full dedication. He further administered the oath of secrecy to the newly elected office bearers and class representatives. Miss. Simran Wadhwan  of M.Sc Microbiology  III Sem was sworn in as the (president )of the college. Miss.Manisha Chandra of M.Sc Chemistry I Sem as a (Vice-President), Miss D. Shrishti of BCA III Year as Secretary, this year the post of joint secretary was reserved for girl candidate and Miss Archita Shrivastava B.Sc Part II was elected as Joint Secretary, Mr. Shubham Busari of B.Com III Year as Cultural Secretary and Mr. Jeshal Gohil of PGDCA  as Sports Secretary. The volunteers of NCC/NSS and all other class representative also sworn in the oath.

Administrator of the college Rev. Fr George Mathew Ramban congratulated and blessed the newly nominated office bearers and Class representatives and said that they should uphold the values of the college and discharge their duties with utmost honesty with proper team work and leadership quality and also maintain harmonious relationship between students and teachers.  .
